Renewing Your Professional Drivers Licence

If You Are Planning On Renewing Your Professional Drivers License you must meet the following requirements:

  • You have be at least eighteen (18) years old
  • Be able to show you are physically and mentally fit to operate a motor vehicle. (or work, in the case of applications for Conductor’s License)
  • You must be able to read and write Filipino, English or the applicable local dialect
  • Have no record of being cited for more than one count of reckless driving during the period of validity of your existing license
  • If you are a foreigner, you must show that you still hold a visa which gives you the right to work in the Philippines.

Where You Can Apply

  • Any Licensing Center/ District Office with Renew Driver’s License Transactions.

    • Scroll down past the head office directory.
    • You will come to a downloadable Excel file, listing all the regions.
    • Click on your region and find your nearest office in the list.
  • Phone them to ascertain the services they provide, and if necessary ask about the nearest office providing the service you need.

The Paperwork You Need

  • A completed application for Driver’s License (ADL), the form is downloadable and you can be complete it prior to attending the LTO office.
  • Or you can pick it up at the service desk on your arrival at the LTO office and fill it in there.
  • Your Professional Driver’s License:
  • If expired for more than two years but less than 10 it can be renewed. However, you must resit both the theory and practical examinations.
  • A Medical Certificate issued by:
    • A licensed practising physician
    • Working in a registered clinic stating that:
      • You are physically and mentally fit to operate a motor vehicle
      • Or otherwise stating any impairment you have and what actions have been taken to ensure that you can drive safely. For example uses corrective lenses.
    • Your medical certificate will last for 60 days and may be used on multiple applications. For example you may use the medical certificate to apply for your Professional Drivers License. Then one month later you could use the same certificate to apply for a Conductors License.
    • Your medical certificate will be transmitted electronically to the LTO and a hard copy given to you for your records.

Process For Delinquent License More Than Two Years Less Than Ten

  • Proceed to the Customer Service Counter to get your checklist of requirements and secure a Driver’s License Application Form. (You can complete this form prior to transacting your business at the LTO. Just click the link)
  • Get a queue number or just wait to be called.
  • When your number or you get called, go to the evaluator counter and submit all the required documents and have it checked for completeness and authenticity.
  • Receiving personnel will retrieve the details of the license from the system and show it to you. Read carefully and then confirm if any revisions to personal data are required:
    • If there are no revision/s to be made, you will proceed to the next step.
    • If there are revision/s to be made, you will need to fill up an ADL for the desired revision/s and attach the appropriate document/s required for confirmation.
    • For this purpose, ADL forms must be made readily available for applicant/s at the same receiving window.

  • Then wait to be called to the area where your biometrics, picture and digital signature are collected.
  • Then proceed to the Cashier when your name is called to pay for the necessary fees and obtain an Official Receipt (OR).
  • Testing

  • You will immediately proceed to the area for the PDL Basic Driving Theory Test applicable to the (RC’s)you applied for.
  • You will be immediately informed of the results of the test.
  • If you pass the written examinations you will have to immediately take the practical driving test for each of the RC’s applied for.
  • For each of these practical tests that you pass, that RC will be recorded on your license.
  • You will be approved for those Restriction Codes on the system by the Approving Officer
  • The PDL or Conductor’s License card with the Official Receipt will be issued to you.
  • You will have to sign for it with your signature over your full printed name on the release form.

    What Happens If You Fail A Test

  • If you fail the PDL Basic Driving Theory Test, then you cannot proceed to the practical driving tests for the RC’s you have applied for.
    • You may resit the test after one month.
    • If you fail the PDL Basic Driving Theory Test a second time within twelve months, you cannot sit it again for one full year from the date of the last examination
    • Should you fail the PDL Basic Driving Theory Test a third time, you cannot sit it again for two full years from the date of the last examination
    • If you fail to pass any of the practical examinations the following applies:
      • For the first failure you will not be able to sit the exam again for one month
      • For the second failure you will not be able to apply again for a period of twelve months from the date of the last examination.
      • After a third failure you will no longer be allowed to apply for the same RC’s for a period of two (2) years from the time of the latest failure.
    • Notes of those tests failed will be recorded on your record.

License That Is Current Or Less Than Two Years Expired

    • If there are revision/s to be made, the applicant shall be required to fill up an ADL for the desired revision/s attaching therewith the appropriate document/s required if necessary, for re-submission.

  • Then wait to be called to the area where your biometrics, picture and digital signature are collected.
  • Proceed to the Cashier when your name is called to pay for the necessary fees and obtain an Official Receipt (OR).
  • Your Professional Driver’s License or Conductor’s License card and the expired card with the Official Receipt will be given to you.
  • You will be required to write your name and affix your signature in the appropriate Release Form.
