How Important Is It To Keep Those Personal Details Updated?

To keep those personal details updated, is very important as they are recorded on your driver’s license which is an official document.
It is also one of the foremost photo identification documents in use in the Philippines, and its credibility is dependent on data accuracy.
Having said that, you cannot be held responsible for errors in data entry, made by LTO staff.
They are rare but they do happen.
You should always check the information that is going to be printed on your license card:

  • Prior to printing.
  • Check the actual card for errors before you leave the LTO building

.
The longer you leave these kinds of errors the harder they are to resolve in your favour.
Always insist that LTO data entry errors are corrected immediately.
What you have to understand is that the charges for changes to your personal data levied by LTO maybe just a fraction of the charges you could incur, especially if the changes are the result of court proceedings or even some administrative proceedings.

What Do I Need To Changes My Personal Data?

It depends on the change you are wanting to make.
The simplest change that you can make is a change of address

Change Of Address

Having the correct address on your Drivers license is important because:

  • It is the address to which summons and instant fines will go. Now at first glance that might not seem to be a bad thing. However, there is a downside, if a summons or traffic violation cannot be delivered it is considered to be the same as refusing service and the MMDA or the Court will treat it like that and you will incur a further penalty.
This from the PNP Criminal investigation Manual pg XXVii.
For lesser offences, you will find that when you go to renew your vehicle registration or drivers license, that you will not be able to do so until all the fines and any additional penalties are paid.
  • In providing your Drivers License as ID you are saying the information included on it is accurate, not just the name and photograph. In certain circumstances that could reflect on your personal integrity.
  • On a more serious note this is the address that they will contact first should you be the victim in a serious or fatal accident.
